Dangote begins work on 10,000-hectare deep seaport in Ogun

Dangote Industries Limited has begun preliminary steps toward developing a 10,000-hectare deep seaport at the Olokola Free Trade Zone in Ogun State, as part of its wider push into maritime infrastructure, logistics, and export-led industrial development.

The company said the multi-billion-dollar project aligns with its Vision 2030 strategy, which aims to establish the group as a globally competitive industrial and manufacturing leader.

Located along the Atlantic coastline, the proposed seaport—stretching through Ogun Waterside Local Government Area and extending toward Ilaje Local Government Area—is expected to function as a major hub for imports, exports, and regional trade.

A delegation from Dangote Industries Limited, led by Managing Director of Infrastructure and Logistics, Capt. Jamil Abubakar, has commenced stakeholder engagement visits to host communities in Ogun State and Ondo State ahead of the start of project execution.

“The Olokola Port project is a major step in opening up Nigeria’s economic potential, strengthening trade, reducing pressure on existing ports and supporting industrial growth. It will create real opportunities for host communities through jobs, business activities and long-term developments across both Ogun and Ondo states,” Abubakar said.
“With its strategic location, Olokola would serve as a key gateway for exports and imports, boosting Nigeria’s competitiveness in regional and global trade. This project reflects our commitment to building infrastructure that benefits both the people and the economy at large.

Capt. Abubakar said the deep seaport is being designed to serve as a logistics gateway for an integrated industrial ecosystem, capable of supporting regional commerce and strengthening Africa’s supply chain network.

The proposed seaport, according to the statement, is expected to support a range of industrial and export-oriented activities across multiple sectors.

The facility is designed to handle exports of fertilisers, petrochemicals, and refined petroleum products, while also enabling future liquefied natural gas exports and the importation of heavy industrial equipment.

Company officials further noted that the project will involve sustained engagement with host communities throughout its implementation phase.

As part of early preparatory work, a delegation from Dangote Industries Limited, accompanied by surveyors and environmental consultants, visited several host communities in Ogun State and Ondo State.
