Dangote begins nationwide petrol sales at N739/litre

Dangote Refinery loses N32.5bn after petrol price cut

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has begun nationwide sales of Premium Motor Spirit at N739 per litre through all MRS Oil Nigeria Plc filling stations, a major step toward providing affordable fuel and stabilising Nigeria’s downstream petroleum market.

In a statement on Sunday, the firm said the new price would be rolled out across more than 2,000 MRS stations nationwide, ensuring consumers across the country benefit from the reduction.

The refinery praised marketers that have adopted the new pricing and urged others to do the same in support of national economic recovery.

“We commend MRS and other marketers who have demonstrated patriotism by reflecting the reduced price at the pump. We call on others to join this effort as a show of support for Nigeria’s economic recovery,” the refinery stated.

Traditionally, Nigeria’s festive season is usually marked by fuel shortages and steep price increases.

However, the Dangote refinery has stepped in decisively, cutting pump prices at a time when Nigerians usually expect hardship. Supported by a guaranteed daily supply of 50 million litres, the move significantly reshapes fuel supply dynamics during the holiday period.

By refining at scale locally, the refinery is cutting Nigeria’s exposure to volatile global markets, conserving foreign exchange, supporting naira stability, and strengthening energy security.

The sustained price reduction and steady supply are easing pressures on households, businesses, and transport operators nationwide.
It also warned against attempts by unscrupulous operators to create artificial scarcity in response to the price cut, urging government agencies to act decisively.

“Any attempt to create artificial scarcity or manipulate supply to frustrate recent price reductions is unpatriotic and unacceptable. We urge regulatory authorities to remain vigilant and take firm action against such practices, especially during this critical festive period,” the statement added.

Consumers were urged to avoid buying fuel at inflated prices, noting that cheaper, high-quality alternatives are readily available.

“We encourage Nigerians to avoid buying PMS at excessively high prices when they can access locally refined fuel at ₦739 per litre from over 2,000 MRS stations nationwide. Report any MRS station selling above ₦739 per litre by calling 0800 123 5264,” the refinery said.

The company also urged other petrol station operators to patronise its products so the benefits of the price reduction can reach all Nigerians, delivering broad-based relief and a more stable downstream market.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery reaffirmed its commitment to steady supply, price moderation, and energy security, stressing that its operations are guided by long-term national interest rather than short-term market pressures.

“Our objective remains clear: to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality petroleum products at affordable prices for Nigerians, while supporting economic stability and reducing dependence on imports,” the refinery concluded.
