The Nigeria Customs Service Port Terminal Multiservices Limited Command has expressed its commitment to achieving a one-hour clearance for roll-on-roll-off cargo, aiming to surpass its current two-hour record.
The Customs Area Controller of PTML, Tenny Daniyan, made this statement on Tuesday during the command’s celebration of International Customs Day in Lagos.
Roll-on-roll-off cargoes refer to wheeled items such as cars, motorcycles, and trucks, which are driven on and off ships independently.
Daniyan further explained that to meet the one-hour clearance target, it is essential for importers and their agents to ensure full compliance with the necessary procedures.
He emphasized that with compliance, including honest declaration, prompt duty payment, and readiness for exit, the command is capable of clearing automobile cargoes within one hour.
He also noted that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has approved the PTML Terminal for pharmaceutical imports.
Daniyan attributed this achievement to the adequate security measures and transparent operational processes at the command, which have made such efficiency possible.
He praised the management of Grimaldi Shipping Line for their commitment to efficiency and applauded the company for launching shipping services from Lagos to Shanghai, China.
“This is a welcome development that should be sustained through legitimate shipping and increased trade activities,” he said.
Daniyan assured that 2025 would bring further improvements on the command’s past achievements and encouraged all stakeholders to continue supporting the Nigeria Customs Service in its efforts towards modernization.
