The Nigeria Customs Service, Western Marine Command, reported that from August to October, it seized various illegal items valued at N924 million.
According to The Punch, the command’s spokesperson, Mailafiya Magaji, said it was stated that 17 sacks containing 1,199 parcels weighing 663.5 kg of cannabis sativa had also been intercepted in a statement released on Friday.
It stated that the Sanki Beach Axis and the Moba Waterways were the locations of the seizures.
The command was also in charge of seizing 1,257 bags of imported parboiled rice worth N50 million in duty-paid value and 66,000 225 mg tramadol capsules, according to Customs Area Controller, Odaudu Salefu.
Salefu said that during two different operations in October, the command was able to capture 3,750 litres of premium motor spirit.
Notably, the command discovered 103 bags containing 8,240 packets of cannabis sativa in August 2023. The seized goods were subsequently turned over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
The total value of the ten seizures that the command carried out between August and October is N924 million, he said.
Salefu clarified that the laws, regulations, and fiscal policies of the government must be respected and followed by the general population.
He stated, “These measures are in place to foster economic growth, safeguard national security, and contribute to Nigeria’s overall progress.”
