The Customs Area Controller, CAC, Apapa Port Command, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu promised port customers in Apapa that the Nigeria Customs Service will carry on with business as usual despite concerns about an upcoming nationwide protest.
A statement on Tuesday from Customs Public Relations Officer, Apapa Port Command, Usman Abubakar, said Olomu gave the assurance at a stakeholders meeting in Apapa, according to the Vanguard.
Olomu said rebuilding the trust of importers, exporters, licensed customs agents, freight forwarders, haulage operators, and other port users over the regular availability of NCS officers in Apapa Port on working days has become crucial.
He reminded members of the Apapa Port Community, including sister government agencies, that customs officers would be resuming work by 8 am on all weekdays and may work during weekends, when necessary.
The Area Controller expressed gratitude to the compliant port users, referring to them as “partners in progress,” and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to continuously ensuring maximum collection of all government revenue while maintaining the level of due diligence necessary for all import and export cargo assessment.
Organisers of the nationwide protest scheduled to commence on Thursday, August 1, 2024, declared that there is no going back on the protest.
