The operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have apprehended Linus Williams, widely known as BLord, a prominent figure in the cryptocurrency sector.
The arrest took place in Abuja on Tuesday, with allegations leveled against BLord ranging from cryptocurrency fraud to terrorism funding and aiding internet fraud through his various companies.
Police spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed the arrest and highlighted the reasons behind it in an interview with our correspondent. According to Adejobi, complaints filed against BLord’s companies, namely Blord Group, Blord Real Estate Ltd, Blord Jetpaye Limited, and Billpoint Technology, triggered the investigation.
Adejobi assured the public of a thorough investigation by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID NPF-NCCC). He elaborated, stating, “These offences include allegations of cryptocurrency fraud, aiding internet fraud, computer-related fraud, terrorism funding, and non-compliance with regulatory frameworks.”
Emphasizing the police’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s cyberspace, Adejobi underscored the importance of ensuring its safety and security through diligent investigations and adherence to regulatory standards. He affirmed, “We will do due diligence in our investigation. Our cyberspace must be safe and secure by all means. We are committed to achieving that.”
