In September 2024, cryptocurrency hacks led to losses exceeding $120 million across various platforms, with major incidents occurring at BingX, Penpie, and Indodax.
According to Blockchain analytics firm Peckshield Alerts, the month saw over 20 hacks, a decline of 61.76% in losses compared to August.
Peckshield reported that the largest loss was suffered by Singapore-based BingX, which lost approximately $44 million. It was followed by Penpie with $27 million and Indodax with over $21 million.
Other significant hacks included DeltaPrime, which lost $5.98 million, and Truflation, which faced losses of $5.6 million. Notably, Shezmu experienced a theft of $4.9 million but managed to recover partial funds.
The third quarter of 2024 has seen total losses of nearly $413 million due to hacks, with centralized finance being the primary target, accounting for approximately 75% of total exploits. Analysts highlight the ongoing risks posed by various scams and phishing schemes in the crypto space.
