Cristiano Ronaldo and British film producer Matthew Vaughn have teamed up to create an independent film studio, UR-Marv.
This marks Ronaldo’s debut in the film industry. They have already financed and produced two action films, with plans for a third in the same series.
The financial details of their 50-50 joint venture were not disclosed.
The investment by Ronaldo and Vaughn comes at a time when streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney+ are increasingly supporting independent film producers.
These platforms provide a global distribution channel, helping such films reach a wider audience and offering a boost to the independent film industry.
“This is an exciting chapter for me, as I look ahead to new ventures in business,” Ronaldo said in the statement on Thursday.
Cristiano Ronaldo, at 40 years old, has expanded his investment portfolio over the past decade. His ventures include stakes in a hotel chain, a porcelain maker, and a media company in Portugal. Recently, he acquired a tennis and padel club in Lisbon.
Additionally, Ronaldo has expressed interest in owning several football clubs once he retires, further diversifying his business interests.
Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, joined Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr in 2022 with a reported annual salary of around US$200 million.
While he continues to excel on the field, he has not yet indicated when he plans to retire.
