Justice Haleemah Salman of the Kwara State High Court has convicted five suspects in the Offa robbery case for illegal possession of firearms, armed robbery, and culpable homicide, adding that these offenses are punishable by death.
The verdict comes six years after the April 2018 incident, which involved multiple bank robberies and resulted in several deaths, according to Channels News.
The prosecution expressed appreciation for the ruling, while the defense plans to appeal the judgement.
The suspects—Ayoade Akinnibosun, Ibikunle Ogunleye, Adeola Abraham, Salahudeen Azeez, and Niyi Ogundiran—received a three-year prison sentence for the firearms possession charge.
The judgement followed a lengthy trial, impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and other national assignments.
The prosecution expressed gratitude for the ruling, while the defence announced plans to appeal.
