Nigerian on-demand delivery startup Chowdeck has acquired Mira, a one-year-old restaurant point-of-sale and management platform, in a strategic move to expand beyond logistics and into the operational backbone of food businesses.
Though financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, Chowdeck CEO Femi Aluko said the acquisition will directly address long-standing gaps in inventory management — a growing priority as the company scales.
“For a long time, we’ve focused more on the customer side than on the restaurant, supermarket, and pharmacy side,” Aluko told Techpoint Africa. “But as we begin to expand, we’re paying deeper attention to the vendor side.”
Launched in 2021, Chowdeck has grown into a formidable force in Nigeria’s food delivery ecosystem, serving over a million users with a fleet of more than 3,000 riders. Now active in eight Nigerian cities and recently expanded to Accra, Ghana, Chowdeck claims it is on pace to reach 1,000 monthly deliveries in the Ghanaian capital within two months — a milestone that originally took a year in Nigeria.
“We are thrilled to welcome Mira to the Chowdeck family,” Aluko added. “I’ve admired their work for a long time, and I’m excited about what we can build together.”
Mira, founded by Ted Oladele, a former VP of Design at Flutterwave, offers a comprehensive suite of tools tailored to the needs of restaurants. Customers can scan QR codes to browse menus, place orders, and pay, while restaurant operators get access to robust backend systems for inventory tracking, sales analytics, and customer engagement. Mira also sells physical POS terminals priced at ₦360,000 and is currently used by over 500 businesses.
The acquisition will see Oladele join Chowdeck as Head of Product, bringing along key Mira employees to develop restaurant-focused tools under the new umbrella. Prior to the acquisition, Mira had raised $200,000 in a friends-and-family round and was in the process of raising a seed round.
The move signals Chowdeck’s ambitions to evolve from a logistics-first platform into a full-stack solution for Africa’s food and hospitality sector.
