China has issued a warning to security departments to perform thorough checks in order to prevent any more breaches.
This warning comes after the government discovered that sensitive and private data in important areas, such as the military, may be compromised by foreign geographic information software.
Following a thorough investigation, the Ministry of State Security reported that data collection using foreign geographic information system software was occurring, some of which involved state secrets and “posing a serious threat to China’s national security.”
The government posted a notice about the threat on its WeChat public account on Monday, but it did not provide any details on the organizations that were held accountable for data access or name particular Chinese companies that were targeted or impacted.
According to the government, by pilfering precise geographic data, three-dimensional geomorphological mapping of particular regions in its energy, transportation, and military could be open to cyberattack.
China has been stepping up its efforts to safeguard national security and stop information breaches that can harm its economy and industry.
Geographic information can be employed as a strategic data resource and in production for industries including agriculture, energy, automated vehicles, rapid online shopping, and food deliveries, according to the government, as technology advances.
