ChatGPT’s mobile app for iOS and Android has generated $2 billion in global consumer spending since its launch in May 2023, according to new data from app intelligence provider Appfigures.
The figure is roughly 30 times the combined lifetime spending of competitors such as Claude, Copilot, and Grok.
In 2025 alone, the app has earned $1.35 billion, a 673% increase from the $174 million recorded during the same January–July period in 2024. Monthly consumer spending now averages nearly $193 million, compared to $25 million last year.
The next-closest rival, Grok, has brought in about $25.6 million so far this year, or 1.9% of ChatGPT’s total. Average monthly spending on Grok is $3.6 million.
While the figures do not reflect overall company revenue — as AI subscriptions are also purchased via the web and APIs — they provide insight into consumer adoption on mobile platforms.
Grok, developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, entered the market in November 2023 without a standalone mobile app. It became available on iOS in January 2025 and on Google Play in March.
Appfigures reports that ChatGPT’s global lifetime spending per download is $2.91, compared with Claude’s $2.55, Grok’s $0.75, and Copilot’s $0.28. In the U.S., ChatGPT’s spending per download rises to $10, with the country contributing 38% of total revenue. Germany ranks second with 5.3%.
ChatGPT also leads in installations, with an estimated 690 million downloads worldwide. By contrast, Grok has recorded 39.5 million installs.
In 2025, ChatGPT has been downloaded 318 million times, nearly triple last year’s 113 million over the same period. India accounts for the largest share of lifetime installs at 13.7%, followed by the U.S. at 10.3%.
