OpenAI has officially unveiled a dedicated Windows app for ChatGPT, expanding access to its AI-powered chatbot platform.
Currently in preview, the app is available exclusively to users of ChatGPT Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Edu plans.
This early version of the app introduces features such as the ability to discuss files and photos, alongside improvements from OpenAI’s latest model, o1-preview. “With the official ChatGPT desktop app, you can engage with your documents and images in a new way,” OpenAI stated.
The ChatGPT app is compatible with most Windows 10 machines, although it does have some limitations. Notably, it currently lacks voice support, including the Advanced Voice Mode, and certain integrations with OpenAI’s GPT Store are not yet functional.
Similar to the macOS version, the Windows app allows users to minimize it to a small “companion” window, facilitating multitasking alongside other applications. Users can upload files, have documents summarized, and generate images using OpenAI’s DALL-E 3.
A full version of the app is expected to roll out later this year.
