The Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization and the World Intellectual Property Organization have agreed to cooperate on the promotion of Intellectual property rights and protection for creative goods and services, especially among young creatives in Nigeria.
This was disclosed during a recent working visit by the Director-General of CBAAC, Aisha Augie, to the Country Director, WIPO Nigeria, Dr Oluwatobiloba Moody, in Abuja, Nigeria, according to Dailytrust.
According to Augie, the move is part of the strategy to build synergies and exploit the enormous potential of the creative economy in Nigeria.
She noted note that CBAAC Recognises IP as a major player and stakeholder in the creative economy and its role in releasing the potential of creativity and making creators benefit from their work, adding that the FESTAC’77 Archive housed by CBAAC has boundless opportunities for authentic storytelling.
Meanwhile, in his remarks, Mr. Moody was pleased to see such opportunities for growth and development and development offered by the Creative Economy.
In addition, he pointed out WIPO’s commitment to working closely with CBAAC to tell authentic stories that reflect the creative spirit of Africans.
Dr Moody assured the Nigerian Government that WIPO commits to increasing knowledge, creating awareness and opportunities as well as strategic use of the intellectual property to develop Nigeria’s economy, society, and culture.
