The Vietnamese cargo ship Dolphin 18 sank in the Singapore Maritime Search and Rescue Region.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore was notified by the container vessel Nicolai Maersk, which had received a distress call from the freighter.
All 18 crew members were rescued from lifeboats by Nicolai Maersk, according to the statement by the authority Saturday.
The Vietnamese-flagged cargo ship was approximately 380 nautical miles east of Vung Tau, Vietnam, within the Singapore Maritime Search and Rescue Region when the distress call was received.
“MRCC Singapore immediately issued navigational broadcasts for vessels in the vicinity to keep a lookout and report sightings of the vessel in distress, and also alerted MRCC Vietnam,” MPA said.
At around 7 p.m. on March 10, the MRCC Vietnam informed Singapore authorities that all 11 crew members had been rescued from the Hung Phat 89, and the vessel had sunk.
The Hung Phat 89, built in 2006, is owned by Thai Duong Marine Transport in Vietnam.
