BRB Capital Group has appointed Etimbuk Bassey as its new Chief Executive Officer, with the appointment taking effect from 16 February 2026.
The move represents a key milestone for the investment and financial services group, which specialises in linking African opportunities to global capital.
This development supports BRB Capital’s ongoing strategy to establish itself as a globally competitive investment firm originating from Africa, while advancing cross-border deal origination, strategic partnerships, and institutional access to capital.
Dr Ebele Onyeabo, the Group Managing Director, commented on the appointment.
“Mr Etimbuk Bassey assumes leadership at a time of strong momentum for the Group, including continued institutional strengthening and progress aligned with the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) recapitalisation requirement, positioning BRB Capital to scale responsibly, deepen market capabilities and expand its international footprint.”
Etimbuk Bassey brings more than two decades of experience in fintech, venture capital, and financial services.
His expertise covers deal origination and execution, enterprise sales, capital raising, transaction structuring, and strategic advisory services for SMEs, high-growth companies, and institutional partners.
Bassey has a proven record of building high-performance teams, enhancing operating models, and delivering complex multi-market initiatives.
In his new role as CEO, he will lead the firm’s expansion in capital markets activities across key sectors and client segments, aligned with strategic partnerships that facilitate cross-border origination and capital access.
His previous leadership roles include serving as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Seedstars in venture capital.
At Flutterwave, he held the position of Vertical Head, where he drove strategy and partnerships with global remittance firms.
At Budpay, he served as Chief Operating Officer and later as Country Director for Budpay UK, leading operational strategy and market development across Africa and the United Kingdom.
During his career, he has overseen more than US$5 billion in transactions and played a key role in the growth and expansion of the organisations he worked with, by strengthening operating capabilities, improving execution discipline, and scaling commercial outcomes across multiple markets.
Following the announcement, Bassey shared his initial remarks.
“BRB Capital has built a strong foundation, and the opportunity ahead is significant,” he said. “Our ambition is to build a world-class investment banking group—originating from Africa and operating seamlessly across global markets. We will scale with discipline, strengthen governance, and deliver exceptional outcomes for clients and partners.”
Bassey is an alumnus of the Oxford Private Equity Programme and the Oxford Algorithmic Trading Programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
He has also completed executive education programmes at Harvard Business School and Yale School of Management.
He holds a Level 6 Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment Banking from the London Institute of Banking and Finance and is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (UK).
