Brazil orders X to halt Grok’s explicit image generation

Elon Musk’s xAI launches Grok 4 with $300 subscription plan

Brazil on Wednesday instructed Elon Musk’s social network X to immediately stop its chatbot Grok from generating sexually explicit images.

This action marks the latest effort by a country to compel the billionaire to address issues with the artificial intelligence tool.

Indonesia became the first country to completely block Grok last month.

Britain and France stated they would continue applying pressure after the chatbot produced a large volume of lewd photos depicting women and children.

X must “immediately implement appropriate measures to prevent the production, using Grok, of sexualized or eroticized content of children and adolescents, as well as adults who have not given their consent,” said Brazil’s chief prosecutor, the National Data Protection Agency and the National Consumer Rights Bureau (Senacon.)

The agencies granted the platform five days to comply with the order.

Failure to comply would result in legal action and fines.

Brazilian authorities noted that X claimed it had deleted thousands of posts and suspended hundreds of accounts following a warning issued last month.

However, subsequent checks revealed that Grok users were still able to generate sexualized deepfakes.

The authorities criticised X for “not being transparent in its response.”

X announced measures on January 15 to prevent Grok from undressing images of real people in countries where such action is considered illegal.

It remains unclear in which countries these measures are currently active.

International pressure has intensified on xAI to restrict Grok following the activation of its “Spicy Mode” feature.

This feature enabled users to create sexualized deepfakes of women and children through simple text prompts such as “put her in a bikini” or “remove her clothes.”

According to the Center for Countering Digital Hate, Grok generated an estimated three million sexualized images of women and children in just a matter of days.
