Boeing signals imminent partnership for T-7 trainer export

Boeing is reportedly nearing a deal to form a partnership to pursue an international contract for its T-7 trainer, executives said Sunday, underscoring rising demand for lightweight military training aircraft.

It was earlier reported that Boeing and Sweden’s Saab were in discussions with Britain’s BAE Systems about collaborating on a potential replacement for the UK’s Hawk trainer, according to Reuters.

Boeing and Saab jointly developed the T-7 advanced trainer for the U.S. Air Force, while the UK has announced plans to replace its out-of-production Hawk fleet, famously showcased by the Red Arrows display team.

When asked ahead of the Dubai Airshow whether the upcoming partnership would target Britain’s trainer requirements, Boeing Defense, Space & Security CEO Steve Parker said, “Watch this space,” declining to offer further details.

Boeing officials indicated that the partnership announcement is expected within the next week and noted that demand for trainers extends across major markets in Europe and Asia.
