The Bauchi State House of Assembly has passed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, approving a total budget size of N877,052,907,900 for the coming fiscal year.

The passage of the bill followed the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Appropriation during plenary on Tuesday. The session was presided over by the Speaker of the Assembly, Abubakar Sulaiman.

The Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Wanzam Mohammed, presented the committee’s findings and recommendations to lawmakers before the bill was considered and passed.

In his presentation, Mohammed revealed that N308.7 billion, representing 35.20 per cent of the total budget, was allocated for recurrent expenditure. He added that N568.3 billion was approved for capital expenditure to fund various development projects across the state.

He explained that the 2026 budget was designed to accelerate infrastructure development, improve the delivery of social services, and stimulate sustainable economic growth throughout Bauchi State.

The committee also commended the state government for its efforts in strengthening fiscal discipline, particularly through the establishment of a Fiscal Services Commission.

According to the report, the government was further praised for building institutional capacity around the new budget framework and for introducing sanctions aimed at curbing extra-budgetary expenditures.

Other key recommendations contained in the report include the prompt release of approved funds to Ministries, Departments and Agencies, as well as the reinforcement of audit and procurement frameworks to promote transparency and accountability in public finance management.
