More than 100 million people have signed up for Baidu’s ChatGPT-like Ernie Bot, according to Wang Haifeng, the Chinese internet giant’s chief technology officer, announced on Thursday.
The search engine giant revealed the user base milestone during a deep learning summit in Beijing, following the public launch of Ernie Bot in August. A partial debut and a more than five-month trial period when a small group of people could test the chatbot’s capabilities came before this.
This came after the release of ChatGPT in late 2022 by the American research group Open AI, which in just six months turned into the software program with the quickest growth rate worldwide.
This year, Baidu CEO Robin Li has frequently praised the potential of Ernie Bot and comparable technologies to assist the company in gaining market share in its mainstream businesses, which include cloud, smart car, and search engine operations.
The most recent version of ChatGPT has a score of 79.02, more than 10 points higher than Ernie Bot, which leads all Chinese chatbots, according to a rating of generative AI-powered chatbots released on Thursday by SuperCLUE.
