The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, announced that he has been granted clearance to spend N40 billion on upgrading and purchasing navigational equipment across the country.
ThisDay reported that this was disclosed by Keyamo in an interview where he stated that the condition of the facilities prompted him to ask the President for immediate action to obtain vital safety equipment.
“We have made the proactive decision to modernize our equipment. We believe that adhering to current standards is necessary. Our goal is to improve Nigeria’s Total Radar Coverage. It was why I traveled to Thales, France.
“In addition, we are replacing our outdated navigation and landing equipment with new ones. Next, we’re attempting to acquire contemporary Instrument Landing Systems for the five International airports and some others.”
According to Keyamo, the Doppler Very High Omnidirectional Range system is another tool that helps pilots navigate through extremely challenging situations. They direct aircraft during approach and landing, even in unclear weather conditions.
“As a nation, we are in the process of acquiring those equipments as a country to upgrade it. We are even getting Distance Measuring Equipment too” he said.
