Aston Martin announced on Wednesday that it is postponing the launch of its first battery-electric vehicle by a year.

The London-listed luxury carmaker now plans to release the BEV in 2026, delaying the launch from its previous target of next year.

In June of the previous year, Aston Martin had entered into a supply agreement with Lucid Group, backed by Saudi Arabia, to support its electrification strategy.

The company stated, “With Aston Martin’s technical partnerships now in place, the Company’s first battery electric vehicle is now targeted for launch in 2026, benefitting from the very best high-performance technologies available.”

This decision follows Mercedes-Benz’s recent announcement of a five-year delay in its electrification goal. Despite automakers and suppliers investing heavily in electric vehicle capacity and technology development, the actual demand for EVs has not matched expectations, leading companies to reassess their production plans.

Aston Martin had committed £2 billion ($2.53 billion) to advanced technologies over the next five years, transitioning its investment from internal combustion engine to BEV technology.
