Apple is developing artificial intelligence products that are comparable to Google’s Bard and OpenAI’s ChatGPT, driving its shares up as much as 2% to a record high.
Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that the iPhone manufacturer is testing a chatbot that some programmers refer to as “Apple GPT” and that it has developed its own framework, called as Ajax, to generate big language models.
Apple has so far refrained from making any significant AI-related actions and even avoided bringing up the topic during its developer conference in June.
This stands in stark contrast to other tech behemoths like Alphabet and Microsoft, which have taken calculated risks to implement the game-changing technology.
After the revelation, shares of Microsoft, Nvidia, and Alphabet all decreased by more than 1%.
But with several of its products, like Apple Photos, on-device texting, and the recently released mixed-reality headset Vision Pro, the company has gently pushed advanced AI.
However, analysts claim that the business is still lagging behind competitors in adopting the new technology.
Siri, Apple’s primary AI product, has likewise remained unchanged over time.
Many teams were involved in the most recent AI initiative, which was overseen by Apple’s top software engineering executive, Craig Federighi, and the company’s head of machine learning and AI, John Giannandrea.
Apple’s new virtual assistant, which is being used internally for product prototypes, summarizes text and responds to inquiries based on data it has been educated on.
Employees claim that the web-based technology effectively duplicates Bard, ChatGPT, and Bing AI.
