AI startup Anthropic announced on Tuesday that its chatbot Claude, now integrates with Google Workspace, allowing users to connect directly with their Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Docs accounts.
The new integration, currently in beta, is available to subscribers on the Max, Team, Enterprise, and Pro plans.
To activate the feature, administrators must first enable the integration for multi-user accounts, Anthropic said. Once enabled, Claude can access and reference content from users’ Google accounts to provide more tailored responses.
With this move, Anthropic becomes one of the first third-party AI firms to offer deep integration with Google’s productivity tools. Competitors like Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT have similar capabilities, but Anthropic is aiming for seamless personalization without requiring manual file uploads or detailed prompts.
The company highlighted use cases such as helping parents track important school emails and events or finding relevant community activities — combining Workspace data with web search to assist with planning. Claude provides in-line citations when referencing Google content, showing users exactly where information comes from.
However, the integration raises some privacy concerns. Users may wonder how broadly Claude scans their data and whether they can limit access to sensitive files. In response, Anthropic said it does not train its models on user data by default and has implemented “strict authentication and access control” to ensure that only authorized users can access connected services.
In addition to the Workspace integration, Anthropic also launched Claude Research, a new feature designed to perform in-depth web searches quickly and comprehensively. The tool is now available to Max, Team, and Enterprise users in the U.S., Japan, and Brazil, with Pro access coming soon.
