Days after Twitch laid off workers, Amazon is cutting back on Prime Video and MGM Studios, laying off “several hundreds” of workers, according to The Information.
By the end of this week, Amazon will have notified most other locations and has started notifying the impacted workers in the United States. Packages comprising separation money, transitional benefits, and outside career transition assistance are being offered by the employer to them.
“Our prioritization of initiatives that we know will move the needle, along with our continued investments in programming, marketing and product, positions our business for an even stronger future,” Mike Hopkins, senior vice president of the division said
The hundreds of workers in the Alexa division, the over 180 positions in Amazon’s gaming division, and the thousands of people impacted across Amazon Stores businesses, its AWS cloud unit, and its advertising arm, among other areas of the company, are just a few of the notable list of layoffs that Amazon has made as of late.
The largest layoffs in the history of the digital giant occurred when Amazon terminated 27,000 employees at the end of 2022 and continued into 2023, accounting for 8% of its corporate staff.
