Amazon is discontinuing a feature that let Prime members extend free shipping benefits to non-household users, notifying customers that the Prime Invitee Program will end on October 1.
This was disclosed in a according to a notice, according to CNBC.
“We are writing to inform you that the Prime Invitee Program, which allowed sharing Prime’s fast, free delivery with others, will end on October 1, 2025,” the notice states. “Your invited guests will be notified directly about this change by September 5, 2025.”
Amazon previously allowed Prime members to share free two-day shipping with another adult in their household, even if that person used a separate address.
Starting next month, Amazon will end the Prime Invitee Program and require anyone outside a member’s household to get their own subscription.
In its place, the company is pushing Amazon Family, which lets members share free shipping and other perks with one additional adult, up to four children, and four teens added before April 7, 2025.
To qualify, all users must share the same primary residential address—defined as the home where they spend most of their time.
The move comes after Reuters reported that United States Prime signups fell short of last year’s numbers and missed internal goals, though Amazon maintained that memberships continue to grow both in the U.S. and internationally.
