The research arm of Alibaba, a Chinese internet titan, has cut a team and lab dedicated to quantum computing.
The facility and associated experimental equipment have been donated by the company to Zhejiang University, they said on Monday.
An official with Alibaba’s internal research programme, DAMO Academy, which encompasses the lab, stated that the academy will continue to emphasise technological research with the objective of becoming a frontrunner in artificial intelligence research.
The facility and its thirty workers, according to Reuters, make a portion of Alibaba’s entire research and development staff. Zhejiang University would make an effort to hire the impacted staff members to work on its own quantum research projects.
Alibaba Group established DAMO Academy in 2017 to conduct research on cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning.
