Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing division of Chinese tech giant Alibaba Group, has expanded its footprint in Southeast Asia with the launch of a third data centre in Malaysia and plans to open a second facility in the Philippines this October.
The announcement was made in a company statement released on Wednesday, following the official opening of the new Malaysian data centre a day earlier.
Alibaba Cloud said the expansion is aimed at meeting the growing global demand for secure, resilient, and scalable cloud services. The move also strengthens its presence in key emerging digital markets in the Asia-Pacific region.
The third Malaysian facility adds to the company’s existing infrastructure in the country and is expected to enhance local enterprise access to advanced cloud technologies, including AI-driven services, data analytics, and cybersecurity solutions.
In the Philippines, the upcoming data centre will deepen Alibaba Cloud’s commitment to supporting digital transformation initiatives across sectors ranging from finance to e-commerce and government services.
With this development, Alibaba Cloud continues to compete with major global players such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud in the region’s fast-growing cloud market.
