The Ondo State first lady, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, recently encouraged women to engage with information communication technology and other valuable skills that can contribute to their self-development.
The Punch reported that she offered this advice to women during the culminating event of the 2023 International Women’s Day in Akure, the state capital, on Thursday.
Mrs. Anyanwu-Akeredolu’s office and the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development collaborated to organize the event.
Many women from all 18 local government areas attended the event, and pregnant women who participated were given kits to launch their businesses.
Akeredolu said, ” I listened to the presentations of young people around the world, on the need to expand digital literacy and skills to include all regardless of who you are, where you live and who you love.
“The world has gone digital in all spheres of life thereby creating a whole lot of job opportunities. Women and girls must not be left behind.”
In addition to urging women to develop their own skills, the first lady also emphasized the importance of training young boys to become responsible men.
She explained that by teaching boys to be responsible, they will grow up to be good men, which will help create a safer and more virtuous world.
The first lady’s message implies that both women and men have a role to play in building a better society. By nurturing and developing the potential of both genders, we can create a more equitable and prosperous world for all.
The state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Julianna Osadahun, said “the theme of the conference ‘Digit All: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality’, was borne out of many gender-challenging issues faced by women and girls in information communication technology, finding solutions to indigenous women and their territorial battles, enlarging women entrepreneurs and financing initiatives using women entrepreneurship.”
