The Nigeria Labour Congress has elected Mr. Joe Ajaero as its new president.
Ajaero won the election for President of the Congress at the recently finished 13th Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the NLC, which was held in Abuja, the capital of the country.
Ajaero, the congress’ deputy president, was chosen by consensus to succeed Ayuba Wabba, who finished his eight-year leadership yesterday.
He had previously held the position of General Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees and was the only candidate for the position of union president.
Ajaero also participated in the Umaru Yar’Adua-created Presidential Committee on Power Sector Reforms.
Ajaero made a commitment to the welfare and interests of employees in his acceptance speech.
He declared, “We shall once more be the Nigerian people’s guide, and we shall cry their anguish.
He praised Ayuba Wabba, the former NLC president, for having what he called resilience in the face of adversity.
