A plane belonging to Xejet Airlines slid off the runway at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Saturday.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria shut down runway 18L at Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos after the aircraft landed on a grass field.
It is gathered that the aircraft with registration number 5NBZZ and type E145 departed from Abuja International Airport on Saturday at 11.29 am, but skidded off the runway at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, according to Leadership.
The plane is reported to have about 53 persons onboard when the incident happened.
A statement from FAAN read, “XEJET airlines Aircraft on landing at runway18L skidded off the runway into the grass verge by B5. The Aircraft details are 5NBZZ. Fire and rescue officers are on the ground to help in the evacuation of the passengers. At the moment Runway 18L is closed to traffic.”
Meanwhile, a team of investigators has been deployed to the scene of the incident, according to the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau.
“NSIB confirms that an aircraft belonging to XeJet Airline skidded off the runway at the domestic wing of Murtala Mohammed Airport this morning. A go team has been deployed to the site of the incident,” the short statement from NSIB read.
Recall, on the 23rd of April, 2024, a Dana aircraft with registration 5N-BKI, and 83 passengers on board skidded off the runway at the same airport.
