AGF assumes control of Mike Ozekhome’s alleged forgery case

The office of the Attorney-General of the Federation has assumed control of the case involving Mike Ozekhome, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, who faces allegations of forgery and using false documents in a contested property matter in the United Kingdom.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission had filed a three-count charge against Ozekhome, marked FCT/HC/CR/010/2026, on January 16.

He was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday before a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama.

When the case was called, Oyedepo, SAN, informed the court that the AGF would be taking over its prosecution.

He added that the case would be conducted with “the highest standards of efficiency, effectiveness, diligence, and strict adherence to due process of law.”

Oyedepo noted that the AGF would require time to review the case file.

The counsel for the ICPC, Osuobeni Akponimisingha, raised no objection to the application.

As a result, Peter Kekemeke, the presiding judge, adjourned the case to February 24 for the defendant’s arraignment.

Ozekhome faces allegations of knowingly presenting forged documents, including a Nigerian international passport, to substantiate his ownership claim of a property at 79 Randall Avenue, London NW2 7SX, during proceedings before the London First-Tier Tribunal.

The offences are said to have occurred in August 2021 in the Maitama area of Abuja, within the court’s jurisdiction.
