Africa’s financial future will be shaped locally — Moniepoint

Suspect arraigned for allegedly stealing N1.1bn from Moniepoint

Moniepoint Microfinance Bank believes that the future of Africa’s financial system will be shaped within the continent through homegrown innovation, effective regulation, and informed journalism.

The bank’s Chief Executive, Babatunde Olofin, emphasized this at the 2025 annual conference of the Finance Correspondents Association of Nigeria, themed “Bracing for the Digital Economy in Nigeria: Taxation, Banking and Finance”.

According to Olofin, Moniepoint is focused on transforming lives by deepening access to financial services, rather than just chasing market share.

He cited the story of a mother of four who lost her home in Abuja and moved to Lagos to work as a petty trader. After joining Moniepoint’s payment platform and gaining access to credit, she now runs three thriving shops, generating daily revenues that once seemed unattainable.

“That is the power of access. That is the meaning of inclusion. Financial services should mean only one thing: progress,” Olofin said.

Moniepoint’s new campaign, “We’re Made for Your Progress,” reflects its mission to empower Africans by leveraging technology to deliver speed, trust, and simplicity in financial transactions.

Olofin stressed that the digital economy is a lived reality, driven by mobile connectivity, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. However, he emphasized the need to prioritize three key pillars: trust, talent, and literacy. “Without knowledge, we are building on sand,” he warned.

To address this, Moniepoint has launched initiatives like the “Dream Developments” incubator, which trains young Nigerians in building financial solutions and promotes financial literacy.

The bank is also expanding its services to include inventory management for small retailers and documenting case studies across regional economies to better understand local challenges.

Olofin concluded that Africa’s financial future will be defined by solutions designed on the continent, not dictated by Silicon Valley. “At Moniepoint, we are not just interested in growing the market. We are committed to transformation. Everyone can bank on technology as a force for good.”
