Adobe launches first AI-powered mobile app

Adobe to launch Photoshop for mobile users

Adobe Inc. has unveiled its first standalone artificial intelligence smartphone app, Firefly Mobile, as it looks to capitalize on the rising popularity of AI-generated images and videos across social media platforms.

Released Tuesday, the new app brings Adobe’s proprietary AI tools to iOS and Android devices and integrates models from leading AI developers including OpenAI and Google.

The mobile version follows Adobe’s earlier rollout of AI features within its flagship Photoshop mobile app.

In addition to in-house models, Firefly Mobile will offer access to AI models from new partners Ideogram, Luma AI, Pika, and Runway through Firefly Boards—a collaborative feature available via the Firefly web app.

The San Jose-based company said subscribers can generate unlimited images using Adobe’s basic models. Premium tools—including those from third-party partners—will be available at additional cost. Pricing for mobile access will mirror the web version of Firefly, starting at $10 per month.

As AI-generated visuals become increasingly shareable online, Adobe is positioning Firefly as a creative tool designed with legal safeguards. The company has emphasized that its AI models are trained only on content it has rights to use, and it offers protections to users against potential copyright claims.

“Even for many of our individual customers, that promise of commercial safety and how Firefly is trained continues to be a really important differentiator,” said Ely Greenfield, Adobe’s Chief Technology Officer for Digital Media.

Adobe did not disclose how it compensates partner firms whose models appear on the platform.
