Otedola reveals he shared bunk bed with Hamzat 49 years ago

Nigerian billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has revealed that he shared a bunk bed with Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat during their boarding school days 49 years ago.

Otedola made the revelation in a post on his X account on Monday, October 19. It followed a dinner he hosted in honour of Hamzat, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for the 2027 Lagos State election.

The businessman described Hamzat as a man of integrity, recalling their longstanding friendship and praising his character over the years.

Reflecting on their relationship, Otedola expressed confidence in Hamzat’s leadership qualities and referred to him as the incoming governor of Lagos State.

“A man of the highest integrity, with whom I shared a bunk bed at boarding school 49 years ago,” Otedola wrote.

He added that his experience of Hamzat’s character had been defined by honesty, sincerity, fairness and strong moral principles.

The businessman’s remarks highlighted a friendship that has lasted nearly five decades, from their school days to their present involvement in business and public affairs.

The dinner brought together some of Nigeria’s most prominent business figures, including Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, and Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Group.

The gathering was organised in honour of Hamzat as he prepares for the 2027 governorship election.

Otedola’s public endorsement also drew attention to the deputy governor’s political ambition and his relationships with prominent members of Nigeria’s business community.

Hamzat emerged as the APC governorship candidate in May 2026 after defeating Olanrewaju Jim-Kamal in the party’s primary election.

According to the announced results, Hamzat secured 657,917 votes, while his challenger received one vote.

The deputy governor has served alongside Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu since 2019 and is seeking to succeed him when his second and final term ends in 2027.

Otedola’s description of Hamzat as the incoming governor reflects his support for the candidate ahead of the election, whose outcome remains undecided.
