SpaceX is set to launch its massive Starship rocket early Monday as it seeks to achieve orbit with the spacecraft for the first time.

According to SpaceX, the 75-minute launch window will open at 8:15 a.m. ET, or 7:15 a.m. local time, from the company’s Starbase facility in Texas.

The Federal Aviation Administration told CNBC that it issued a licence authorisation on September 26 for the Starship Super Heavy Flight 14 launch and re-entry operations.

During the 14th test flight, SpaceX also plans to deploy 26 of its new Starlink V3 satellites.

Starship is central to SpaceX’s expansion plans, with the company relying on the giant rocket to support the growth of its Starlink connectivity business. Starlink was SpaceX’s largest and only profitable business segment in the second quarter.

The company currently operates about 11,000 active satellites in orbit, compared with roughly 650 operated by rival Eutelsat OneWeb.

During SpaceX’s August earnings call, CEO Elon Musk said Starlink could eventually provide the majority of the world’s internet access in countries where the service is permitted to operate, which he said represents most countries.

SpaceX went public in June in what was described as the largest initial public offering on record. The company is now valued at about $2tn.
