PremiumTrust Bank bags dual credit rating upgrades from Agusto, DataPro

PremiumTrust Bank has secured upgraded credit ratings from both Agusto & Co. and DataPro Limited, a development that highlights the lender’s financial soundness, robust risk management practices and steady growth path.

Agusto raised the Bank’s long-term rating from BBB+ to A-, while its short-term rating moved from A2 to A1.

DataPro, on its part, upgraded the Bank’s long-term rating from A- to A and retained its short-term rating at A1.

The upgrades came on the back of the Bank’s strong financial performance, having recorded a pre-tax profit of N177.1 billion and total assets of N1.7 trillion in 2025.

Speaking on the development, the Bank’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Emmanuel Emefienim, said: “These upgrades are a strong validation of the fundamentals we have built at PremiumTrust Bank. From inception, we have been deliberate about establishing our presence and building an institution with the financial strength, resilience, and operating discipline to compete in the Nigerian banking industry.”

He added: “Our focus now is on converting this momentum into sustained growth. We are strengthening our balance sheet, expanding our physical and digital footprint, and investing in the capacity needed to serve our customers and support the businesses and communities across our markets.”

The rating agencies pointed to the Bank’s strong capitalisation as a key factor, noting that its capital adequacy ratio climbed from 20.8 per cent to 40.8 per cent.

They also cited a liquidity ratio of 71.1 per cent and a net interest margin of 83.3 per cent.

On asset quality, the Bank maintained a sound position, with its non-performing loan ratio standing at 0.2 per cent.

Its cost-to-income ratio was recorded at 23.2 per cent.

Four years since commencing operations, the Bank has expanded its network to 33 branches across the country, alongside sustained investment in its digital banking capabilities.
