Google on Wednesday unveiled a range of new study tools across Search and Gemini, including AI-generated interactive visuals, 3D simulations, a dedicated student hub and personalised practice quizzes.
The new features are part of Google’s broader push to position Gemini as a go-to AI assistant for students seeking help with learning and exam preparation.
On Google Search, students can now create customised tools and simulations to help them understand complex subjects. For instance, a student studying pH levels can search for “pH scale” and receive an interactive visual within an AI Overview explaining the concept.
Students can also ask follow-up questions for more specific information. For example, asking Search to plot citrus fruits on the pH scale prompts AI Mode to generate an interactive experience tailored to the request.
Users can now generate customised practice quizzes directly through Google Search across subjects such as science, mathematics, humanities and foreign languages.
For instance, students can enter a prompt such as, “Create a quiz with the most commonly tested vocabulary words to help me prepare for the SAT,” and Search will generate an interactive quiz tailored to their study needs.
Google is also expanding Gemini with new features designed to make research and learning more interactive. Students can now initiate multi-step research projects through Gemini Live and continue the conversation about the findings once the work is complete.
Users can ask Gemini to research a topic and leave the chat while the task runs in the background. Once the report is ready, Gemini will send a notification, allowing users to review the findings and ask follow-up questions using their voice.
Google also announced that Gemini can now generate functional 3D simulations tailored to users’ prompts. Its responses can include interactive tables, grids and simulations designed to help users better understand complex concepts.
This move also intensifies competition with AI firms such as OpenAI and education-focused platforms, including Knowt and Gauth, which have introduced their own learning, revision and practice tools.
