The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has launched an investigation into a viral video showing an altercation between an Aviation Security personnel and a passenger at Osubi Airport in Delta State, pledging to sanction any officer found to have breached its operational procedures or professional standards.
The PUNCH reported that FAAN disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, following widespread circulation of the video on social media.
The response follows public outrage over a viral video alleging that a female passenger was harassed during a disagreement with airport security personnel at Osubi Airport, also known as the Alfred Diete-Spiff Airport.
The incident generated widespread reactions on social media, with many users calling for an independent investigation and improved passenger handling at Nigerian airports.
The development comes amid renewed public scrutiny of airport operations in Nigeria.
In recent weeks, aviation-related incidents, including disputes over airport transport reforms and passenger service delivery, have drawn increased attention to customer experience and regulatory oversight in the sector.
According to FAAN, its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Olubunmi Kuku, has directed an immediate investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The statement read, “The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has taken note of the video circulating on social media regarding an interaction between Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel and a passenger at Osubi Airport.”
“The Managing Director/Chief Executive views the matter with utmost seriousness and has directed an immediate investigation to establish all the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement partly read.
The authority assured airport users that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken if the investigation establishes any wrongdoing by its personnel.
It stated, “FAAN remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, safety, security and customer service across all its airports.”
“The outcome of the investigation will guide any further action that may be considered necessary. Should the investigation establish any breach of FAAN’s operational procedures or professional standards, appropriate administrative and disciplinary measures will be taken in accordance with the Authority’s regulations.”
FAAN also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and passenger welfare. “The Authority appreciates the public’s interest and assures all airport users that every complaint is treated with the seriousness it deserves.”
“FAAN remains committed to transparency, accountability and continuous improvement in the delivery of safe, secure and passenger-focused airport services,” the statement added.
