General Motors will begin launching new gas-powered Cadillac models next spring as the automaker continues to scale back its focus on all-electric vehicles.

GM CEO Mary Barra said on Tuesday that the next-generation Cadillac lineup will include new versions of the CT5 sedan, the ageing XT5 midsize SUV and the discontinued three-row XT6 SUV.

“Starting next spring and continuing into 2028, we will begin launching the next generation of Cadillac ICE [internal combustion engine] vehicles,” Barra said during the company’s second-quarter earnings call.

Barra said the new vehicles would complement Cadillac’s existing lineup of all-electric crossovers and the Escalade SUV.

The product announcements further underscore GM’s retreat from its earlier EV ambitions.

The automaker had previously planned for Cadillac to sell only electric vehicles by the end of the decade, but has since scaled back EV plans across other brands while increasing production of gas-powered engines, including V8 models.

GM has incurred $10.9 billion in EV-related charges since the second half of last year, following slower-than-expected electric vehicle adoption and changes in U.S. regulations that eased emissions standards and eliminated support for EVs.

Barra also reiterated GM’s plans to “onshore significant manufacturing” beginning next year. As part of the strategy, the Detroit-based automaker plans to expand production of its full-size SUVs at a Michigan plant that had previously been designated for EV production.
