Tinubu to be honoured at presidential media dinner

The State House Press Corps has announced plans to host its inaugural Annual Dinner, tagged “The Presidential Press Corps Annual Dinner”, in a move aimed at strengthening engagement between the media and the highest levels of government.

The development was disclosed in a statement signed and issued on Monday by the Chairman of the State House Press Corps, Anule Emmanuel.

According to the statement, the event, which was initially scheduled for Thursday, June 4, 2026, has been rescheduled and will now take place on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The SHPC is made up of journalists accredited to cover the Office of the President and activities of the Presidency. The maiden edition of the annual dinner is intended to celebrate excellence in presidential reporting and recognise journalists covering the nation’s highest office.

The event is also expected to provide a relaxed setting where the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria can engage directly with journalists who report on his administration daily from the Presidential Villa.

The statement noted: “This event marks a historic milestone for the State House Press Corps. For the first time, we are bringing together the crème de la crème of Nigeria’s media industry to honour the dedicated professionals who report from the Villa — a beat that is often demanding and rarely offers public recognition.”

One of the major highlights of the occasion will be the recognition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as the Grand Patron of the State House Press Corps. He is expected to be formally decorated during the dinner ceremony.

Several prominent government officials and political leaders are expected to attend the event. Among them are Vice President Kashim Shettima, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, as well as state governors from across the country.

The organisers believe the event will serve as a platform to strengthen the relationship between the Presidency and the media while celebrating the contributions of journalists responsible for covering activities at the seat of power.
