Google unveiled a major upgrade to its Gemini app at its annual I/O event, adding a suite of new features designed to reposition it as a full-scale AI hub.
The updates include a “Daily Brief” feature that delivers personalised summaries, a redesigned user interface, and access to a new AI video generation model called Gemini Omni.
Google also introduced a new personal AI agent, Gemini Spark, aimed at handling more proactive and task-driven assistance.
The move signals a strategic shift by Google to evolve Gemini beyond a traditional chatbot into an all-purpose AI platform integrated into users’ daily workflows.
It also intensifies competition in the fast-growing AI assistant market, where rivals such as ChatGPT and Claude are rapidly expanding their own capabilities.
Google describes its new “Daily Brief” feature as a personalised morning digest that surfaces key information from a user’s inbox, calendar, and top tasks in one streamlined overview.
The tool goes beyond simple summaries by prioritising what matters most and suggesting next steps, with the most urgent items placed at the top.
Google says the feature is rolling out starting today to Google AI subscribers in the United States.
The company said the platform already has more than 900 million monthly users and is available in over 230 countries and more than 70 languages. However, Google is clearly aiming for further growth without alienating its existing user base.
To support that push, Google said it has rebuilt the app from the ground up.
On launch, users will now encounter a new design language called “Neural Expressive,” which introduces fluid animations, vibrant colours, updated typography, and haptic feedback for a more dynamic user experience.
