Apple to add Siri AI mode to iPhone camera in iOS 27

Apple is reportedly preparing to embed artificial intelligence more deeply into the iPhone camera app by introducing a new Siri-powered mode in its upcoming iOS 27.

Apple will relocate its Visual Intelligence feature, currently tied to the Camera Control button, directly into the camera app, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.

It will appear as one of the selectable modes alongside Photo, Video, Portrait, and others.

The new feature will let users point their camera at objects and instantly query AI tools like ChatGPT for information about what they are seeing, or use Google for reverse image searches.

Visual Intelligence already enables users to extract information from real-world objects, convert details from posters into calendar events, identify plants and animals, and pull up business information such as phone numbers and menus.

Apple is also overhauling the camera experience in its upcoming operating systems, introducing a redesigned shutter button inspired by the Apple Intelligence logo to replace the traditional white capture button used in the current Visual Intelligence setup.

While users will still be able to access the feature by pressing and holding the Camera Control button, added to the right side of the iPhone 16 in 2024, that shortcut will now open a Siri-powered mode inside the camera app, rather than launching a separate interface.
