PTAD completes final payment of N32,000 pension increment arrears

Pensioners lament FG’s decision to scrap PTAD

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate has announced that it has disbursed the final one-month arrears of the N32,000 pension increment to eligible retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme.

This was contained in a statement released on Monday by PTAD’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Olugbenga Ajayi.

According to the agency, the payment completes all outstanding arrears linked to the pension increase introduced to enhance the welfare of retirees.

PTAD has confirmed that the latest disbursement marks the completion of all payments tied to the N32,000 pension increment approved by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, with effect from July 29, 2024.

“A total sum of N1,734,592,000 was paid to 54,206 eligible DBS pensioners,” he said.

Under the Parastatals Pension Department, a total of 25,804 pensioners received N825,728,000.

Meanwhile, 28,402 pensioners under the Tertiary Education and Health Pension Department received a total of N908,864,000.

The disbursement covered 13 months of arrears, spanning from August 2024 to August 2025.

“With this final payment, all outstanding obligations of the N32,000 pension increment have been fully settled,” he said.

PTAD noted that the implementation of the pension increment began earlier, following funding support from the Federal Government.

The process commenced after a partial release of N20.19 billion to support pension adjustments.

The approved increment included a flat increase of N32,000, in addition to percentage increases of 10.66 per cent and 12.95 per cent.

PTAD said the payments were reflected in the September 2025 payroll cycle.

The funding is part of a wider N45 billion emergency allocation approved by the Federal Government for pension reform interventions.

PTAD clarified that not all pensioners qualified for the N32,000 flat-rate increase, as some had already benefited from earlier pension adjustments.

According to the Directorate, certain retirees had previously received percentage-based increases of 10.66 per cent and 12.95 per cent

Affected organisations include Peoples Bank, Assurance Bank, Nigeria Reinsurance, NICON Insurance, NITEL/MTEL, PTI, and PHCN.

These categories were excluded from the flat-rate increment in line with regulatory directives governing the implementation.
