Tinubu blames privatization for current power sector crisis

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria is currently on the right path notwithstanding the persistent challenges facing the power sector.

During a recent engagement monitored on Channels Television, the President attributed the nation’s ongoing electricity struggles to what he described as poorly executed privatisation by previous administrations.

He expressed a strong sense of optimism regarding the direction of the country and insisted that current reforms are laying a solid foundation for long-term growth.

In his assessment of the energy crisis, President Tinubu criticised the specific manner in which the power sector was handed over to private operators. He noted that the process created significant structural issues that continue to negatively affect the supply of electricity across the country today. According to the President, the privatisation exercise was not properly designed to deliver efficiency or reliable service to Nigerians.

The President further stressed that his administration remains fully committed to addressing these inherited challenges. He added that comprehensive efforts are currently underway to stabilise and improve both power generation and distribution systems.

President Tinubu also used the occasion to push back against various critics of his administration. He maintained that while the situation remains difficult for many citizens, the government’s policies are gradually steering the country in the right direction.
