Epic Games, the maker of Fortnite, is doubling down on its partnership with The Walt Disney Company as it seeks to revive growth following a recent downturn in user engagement that prompted the company to lay off about 1,000 employees last month.
The company is preparing to launch a new extraction-style shooter in November featuring Disney characters, According to Bloomberg.
The title is expected to follow the format popularised by games such as Arc Raiders, developed by Nexon.
The upcoming title will mark the first release under The Walt Disney Company and Epic Games’ partnership, launched after Disney’s $1.5 billion investment in early 2024.
If the planned November debut proceeds as scheduled, the game will arrive alongside Take-Two Interactive’s highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6, setting up a major showdown in the gaming market.
Disney has said its new CEO, Josh D’Amaro, has long supported the Epic collaboration and is prioritising technology-driven interactivity as a core pillar of the company’s strategy.
