Trump threatens to target Iran’s energy network if negotiations fail

United States President Donald Trump warned Monday that if Iran does not immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz and a peace agreement is not reached soon, the United States will “blow up and completely obliterate” Iran’s electric power plants, oil wells and the strategic Kharg Island oil hub.

“The United States of America is in serious discussions with A NEW, AND MORE REASONABLE, REGIME to end our Military Operations in Iran,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

“Great progress has been made but, if for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately ‘Open for Business,’ we will conclude our lovely ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!), which we have purposefully not yet ‘touched.’”

His remarks come as the conflict in Iran enters its fifth week, with the Trump administration considering the deployment of ground forces to capture Kharg Island—a key fuel hub central to Iran’s oil industry.

It is estimated that about 90 per cent of Iran’s crude exports pass through the island before being transported via the Strait of Hormuz. Kharg Island is also reported to have a loading capacity of approximately 7 million barrels per day.

Iran has not yet issued a formal response to President Trump’s latest comments.

Earlier in the day, a spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry described the 15‑point peace proposal from the U.S. as “very excessive, unrealistic and unreasonable,” rejecting the framework as unacceptable and saying Tehran had not agreed to it.
