Apple plans to introduce ads in maps app

Apple is reportedly planning to introduce ads in the Apple Maps app.

An announcement could come as early as this month, with the ads expected to roll out to iPhones by summer, according to Bloomberg.

The system would likely function similarly to ads on Google Maps and Yelp, allowing businesses and brands to bid for visibility in specific search results and locations.

This potential ad revenue could significantly strengthen Apple’s services segment, which currently brings in $100 billion annually.

While this division makes up roughly 25 per cent of the company’s yearly revenue, it faces both short- and long-term challenges as regulators worldwide push for changes to App Store policies.

Apple has not yet issued any official comment on the reports.

However, the idea has been circulating since last year, with rumors stretching back as far as 2022.
