FAAN to end cash payments at airports from March 1

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has announced that it will no longer accept cash payments at any of its facilities, including access gates, car parks, and executive lounges, effective Sunday, March 1.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by FAAN on Friday.

According to the authority, the directive is part of its “Go Cashless” initiative aimed at promoting faster, safer, and fully digital transactions across all airports.

According to the statement, all passengers and airport visitors must now make payments digitally at FAAN-managed airports.

The directive covers access gate entry, car park fees, as well as charges for executive and VIP lounge services.

FAAN noted that the initiative is in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s policy promoting cashless transactions across public services.

“In line with the directive of the Central Bank of Nigeria, effective March 1st, 2026, cash will no longer be accepted at any FAAN pay point. That means at all our international and local airports—from access gates to car parks, and executive lounge entries—every transaction must be digital,” the statement read in part.

Passengers have been encouraged to obtain their payment cards at access gates and lounges to benefit from the “Tap and Go” system, which enables faster transactions and helps reduce queues.

The authority also assured travellers that the cashless system is secure and designed to enhance convenience across airport facilities.

Passengers or visitors with inquiries are advised to visit any FAAN information desk at the airports or obtain further details via the agency’s official website, www.faan.ng.

FAAN had earlier introduced the first phase of its contactless payment system in September 2025 at Murtala Muhammed International Airport and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The rollout formed part of a phased implementation plan to extend the system to all FAAN-managed airports by the first quarter of 2026.
