Thousands of social media users on Monday reported difficulties accessing X, formerly known as Twitter, as complaints surged across multiple regions worldwide.
Outage-tracking platform Downdetector recorded a sharp increase in reports, with more than 3,000 users flagging problems linked to the social media platform.
Data from Downdetector showed that over half of the complaints were related to the mobile application, while one in five users reported issues accessing the main feed. An additional 16 percent of users said they were unable to use the website properly.
The disruption reportedly began around 1:05 p.m. on February 16, with users across different locations experiencing login failures, timelines failing to refresh, and desktop versions of the platform becoming slow or completely inaccessible.
Several users took to Downdetector’s comment section to express frustration over the outage. One user wrote, “birdapp is held together with duct tape and sticks, if it weren’t for the fact that so many anime artists are still here, i wouldve jumped the boat by now.”
Another user complained of persistent technical challenges, stating, “No notifications showing on web. Delayed replies and follows for last 72 hours.”
In the United States, Downdetector data indicated that 67 percent of affected users experienced problems logging in through the website, while 18 percent reported issues related to the mobile app.
Significant outage reports also emerged from parts of India, particularly in cities such as Chandigarh, Delhi, Jaipur, and Mumbai. Users in these areas cited problems including feed updates not loading, server application failures, and restricted access to the app.
As of the time of reporting, X had not released any official statement explaining the cause of the outage. Disruptions on the platform are often intermittent or limited to certain regions, and no further information has been provided.
